Amazing to have been able to present Coed Duon Dragons Womens Senior team, the U19s and Development team with their new New York Welsh home and away football kit last night. Icing on the cake was seeing my mate (and World Gold medalist and Olympic Silver Medalist) Jamie Baulch who popped along for the kit launch at Blackwood Comprehensive School.
He’s a local lad who certainly hasn’t forgotten his roots.
Last night we got to see the U19’s team play (a 2:2 draw in the end). Looking forward to seeing the Senior team soon!
What was even better is that my kids got to see first hand, the impact investing in grassroots female sport can have. Credit all due to the team captain Katie Williams who made the outreach to ask for help. It’s a shame that help needed to come from an American #diaspora organization 3,500 miles away. But here we are (and we think the kit looks fab).
It’s why Alayna and I set up JerseyForAll ®, and why we’ll continue to support women’s sport, elevate women’s sport and invest in women’s sport. This is a team effort (pun intended) and without the help and generosity of our New York Welsh bar, The Liberty NYC, and the Welsh expat community in New York including Marc Walby, we couldn’t do what we do.
